Limited Assistance Representation Limited Assistance Representation ("LAR") allows you to save money on legal fees by retaining the services of an attorney for certain parts of your case while you handle all other issues. Some types of cases that may be appropriate for LAR include: - Divorce, including child support, alimony, custody and property division
- Modifications
- Contempts
- Guardianships
- Visitation
Some of the ways an LAR attorney can assist in your case include: - Preparing documents, including initial divorce filings (joint petition or complaint for divorce), motions, pre-trial memorandums, discovery requests and financial statements while you represent yourself in court.
- Providing legal advice and/or advice about court procedure while you represent yourself in court.
- Reviewing, analyzing and explaining various documents. This could include (but is not limited to) settlement proposals, tax returns, and other financial documents.
- Appear in court on your behalf for a specific matter such as a motion for temporary orders or a pre-trial conference.
LAR also allows an attorney to represent a client for a specific amount of time, for example from initial filing through to a motion for temporary orders. Depending on the scope of the representation, fees can either be handled on a flat-fee basis or on an hourly basis. If you think that LAR is right for you please contact my office and I would be happy to discuss the possibilities with you.
